5 Steps to Healthy Skin

Everyone struggles with breakouts from time to time, but here are some tips I hope will eliminate those breakouts and keep your skin looking fresh.
  1. Wash your face twice a day. Do not use bar soap to clean your face. Identify your skin type (i.e. oily, dry, mix, etc.) When looking for a cleanser, you know how much oil you will need in your face wash. If you have oily skin, you will use a cleanser with less oil, than a person with dry skin.
  2. Exfoliation weekly can drastically improve the condition of your skin. Look for a microderm-abrasion scrub with tiny grains, if it has big grains, it can do more damage than good.
  3. Moisturization is a necessity! Even if your skin is oily, you will still need a little bit of moisture. Be careful not to over-moisturize because this can result in clogged pores. The best moisturizers will have an SPF of at least 15. This will protect your skin against the sun throughout the day.
  4. Drinking plenty of water can change both the way you feel and the way your skin looks. If you are inactive, you will need to drink half your body weight in ounces (i.e. if you weigh 110 lbs, you will need to drink 55 oz. of water a day.) However, if you are active you will need to drink more.
  5. Eliminating dairy from your diet can also improve your skin. Dairy is bad for your skin, and once eliminated can improve your complexion. An easy way to tell if there is dairy in something is that it is required at the bottom of every ingredient list. So, at the bottom of an ingredient list of food, if it does not say "contains: milk" it is dairy free.
I personally am off dairy because my dermatologist recommended it to me. I do struggle with breakouts, and after reading these articles, am going to try these methods.
